How many of us wish that we could go back in time and tell our younger selves that we would end up with an addiction to one or more substances, would ruin jobs, careers, have spent thousands, tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of pounds on substances that have damaged our bodies and minds!…
Unfortunately we can’t, (if we could, we would be very rich people!) however in recovery, we get the opportunity to become whatever we want to be second time round. We are lucky that our illness hasn’t killed us like it has for so many others!
A New Tool To Add To Your “Recovery Toolbox”
Many others who haven’t had an addiction end up being stuck in dead end jobs with boring lives with no sense of adventure or gratitude for the things we have! At least in recovery, we should be thankful that we can live full, fun, rewarding lives which helps others and is a life worth living! If you can, be grateful for this second chance opportunity that we have been given!Another tool you can add to your “recovery toolbox” is starting a gratitude list if you haven’t started one before, or go back to your old one if you already have one. Try to add as many things to it as you can! You may want to create a list and complete it all in one go if you feel that you are struggling with motivation in your recovery or having a tough time with your mental health and are feeling depressed. Another option is to create your list and then add 5-10 things to your list each day. Doing it this way ensures that you are constantly reminding yourself of the things that you are grateful for each and every day.
If you need a hand to start one or are not sure what one is, look at our previous article about gratitude lists here. There are also a few different examples of different styles of lists you could try or have fun experimenting and create your own that works for you!?…
We always want to see what you guys and girls are up to and really want to see your gratitude lists. If you want to share them with us, we will share them with others on our social media pages for those who may be unsure where to start?
